Bold Alterations in Schizophrenia: Spectral Changes in Resting-state Fmri Signal

چکیده
PURPOSE Schizophrenia is a mental illness with cognitive impairments, which could be due to the abnormal neural oscillations in the brain[1]. It is believed that the neural oscillations reflect multiple physiological mechanisms in the brain networks, especially prominent in the low-frequency oscillations (LFO) [2]. Therefore, the abnormal LFO distributions may reflect the impaired cognitive functions in schizophrenia patients. In this project, we examined and compared three different frequency bands regarding the amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (fALFF) between schizophrenia patients and normal control.

Correlation of BOLD Signal with Linear and Nonlinear Patterns of EEG in Resting State EEG-Informed fMRI
Concurrent EEG and fMRI acquisitions in resting state showed a correlation between EEG power in various bands and spontaneous BOLD fluctuations. However, there is a lack of data on how changes in the complexity of brain dynamics derived from EEG reflect variations in the BOLD signal. The purpose of our study was to correlate both spectral patterns, as linear features of EEG rhythms, and nonline...
متن کاملMapping Transient Hyperventilation Induced Alterations with Estimates of the Multi-Scale Dynamics of BOLD Signal
Temporal blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) contrast signals in functional MRI during rest may be characterized by power spectral distribution (PSD) trends of the form 1/f(alpha). Trends with 1/f characteristics comprise fractal properties with repeating oscillation patterns in multiple time scales. Estimates of the fractal properties enable the quantification of phenomena that may otherwise b...
متن کاملAn investigation of intrinsic, task-interim resting state BOLD signal correlations with Broca's and Wernicke's areas in schizophrenics and in subjects at high genetic risk
INTRODUCTION: Structural abnormalities in language areas [1,2] and linguistic processing deficits [3-8] have been reported in schizophrenia, but few studies have examined the non-task-correlated, or intrinsic, functional MRI (fMRI) BOLD signal correlation within the language areas of normative control or schizophrenic patients. Following our previously reported finding [7, 8], in this report we...
متن کاملDecreased Spontaneous Low-frequency BOLD Signal Fluctuation in First-episode Treatment-naive Schizophrenia
The default mode of brain function hypothesis has been readdressed from the perspective of the presence of low-frequency blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) signal changes (0.01-0.1Hz) in the resting healthy brain. In this study, a newly reported cosinestatistical parameter mapping (SPM) approach is presented to measure the temporal low-frequenc...
متن کاملLocalization of cerebral functional deficits in treatment-naive, first-episode schizophrenia using resting-state fMRI
BACKGROUND Spontaneous low-frequency fluctuations (LFF) in the blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) signal have been shown to reflect cerebral spontaneous neural activity, and the present study attempts to explore the functional changes in the regional brain in patients with schizophrenia using the amplitude of the BOLD signals. METHODS A total of 6...
